Knox Area Chapter to Award $12K in ScholarshipsFriday, March 31, 2017
The Ft Knox Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will award more than $12,000 in college scholarships to eligible high school seniors graduating from area schools and homeschool programs. The Chapter will award one $1,500 scholarship and eleven $1,000 grants.
Eligibility is limited to those who are family members of an active duty, Guard or Reserve service member; a 20-year or medically-retired or deceased active duty, Guard or Reserve service member; or the grandchild of a retired (living or deceased) active duty, Guard or Reserve service member. The service member’s rank or branch of service is not a factor.
“Our Chapter’s general membership contributes to the scholarship fund throughout the year so we can make college more affordable for a military child or grandchild. Since 2010, our Chapter has awarded over $52,000 in scholarships to 72 graduating High School Seniors,” according to Dick Ardisson, the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee chairman.
Seniors currently attending high school or homeschool program in the Fort Knox area (Ft Knox, Hardin, Meade, or LaRue County, as well as Elizabethtown Independent, FAITH Home School, and North Hardin Christian School) are encouraged to obtain scholarship applications, along with submission details, from their school Guidance Counselor. Students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA or be in the upper half of their graduating class.
All applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2017.
MOAA is a nonprofit veterans’ association dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense and ensuring our nation keeps its commitments to currently serving, retired and former members of the uniformed services and their families and survivors. Membership is open to those who hold or have ever held a warrant or commission in any branch of service and their surviving spouses. For more information contact KnoxMOAAInfo@gmail.com
