Legendary Radio Broadcaster/Pioneer Paul Harvey Dies
Legendary radio broadcaster Paul Harvey, whose career spanned some 75 years, has died. He was 90. Harvey was heard by an estimated 22 million listeners, and was one of the most recognizable voices on the radio. His two programs, "Paul Harvey News & Comment," now in its 57th year, and "The Rest of The Story," now in its 32st year, can be heard on more than 1000 affiliates, as well as over 400 Armed Forces Network outlets.
Harvey died at a hospital in Phoenix, where he kept a winter home, said ABC Radio spokesman Louis Adams. He was surrounded by family members when he died, Adams said. He had been hosting his radio programs on a parttime basis for much of the past year, after suffering from pneumonia and the death of his wife, Lynne "Angel" Harvey in May, 2008. "Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation's history. As he delivered the news each day with his own unique style and commentary, his voice became a trusted friend in American households," said ABC Radio Networks President Jim Robinson. "His career in radio spanned more than seven decades, during which time countless millions of listeners were both informed and entertained by his "News & Comment" and "Rest of the Story" features."
He continued, "Even after the passing of his loving wife Angel in May, 2008, Paul would not slip quietly into retirement as he continued to take the microphone and reach out to his audience. We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are now with his son Paul Jr. and the rest of the Harvey family." "My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news. So in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend," said Paul Harvey, Jr. (02-28-09)

Back to where it all began!
From the Desk of Johnny Randolph:I was never able to figure out where Paul Harvey stood politically. To me this was one of the many traits that made him so unique. This is the way journalists should be. In the future much will be written but there will never be another like him.
From the Desk of Michael Marvin:The broadcasting industry has lost a legend in Paul Harvey on the last day of February, 2009. His programs were part human interest stories and part history lessons. The impact of losing Paul Harvey to the grave would be like losing a close friend He was such to millions of listeners. At this moment, radio people are mourning his death.
